Cucumbers mean summer to me. They are so refreshing and tasty and that’s why because are made up of mostly water (95%), which means eating them on a hot summer day can help you stay hydrated.
Moreover, cucumbers are a great source of vitamins K, B (is known to help from some of the damaging effects of stress) and C, copper and manganese. Plus, they contain numerous antioxidants as beta-carotene.
Cucumbers also contain potassium which is associated with lower blood pressure levels and better heart function.
Benefits towards brain health and fresh breath
The benefits that cucumbers offer don’t stop there as they also contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in brain health and in memory. So if you are forgetting things eat a slice of cucumber and at the same time freshen your breath. Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.
If you don’t like to eat the skin of cucumbers, it can be used for skin irritations and sunburns as aloe would be used. Extra tip, the silicon and sulfur in cucumbers help to stimulate hair growth. Silica, is also important to the body as is known to help promotes joint health by strengthening the connective tissues.
Promotes digestion and weight loss
Also if you need a healthy digestion you must know that cucumbers as they are rich in water and fiber are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, and therefore aiding digestion. Due to their low calorie and high water content, cucumber is an ideal diet for people who are looking for weight loss. By eating cucumbers you can low not only your weight, but also the risk of cancer as they are full of polyphenols which may help to lower your risk of breast, uterine, ovarian and prostate cancers.
Had a little too much to drink? To avoid a morning hangover or headache eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed. Cucumbers contain enough electrolytes to replenish many essential nutrients, reducing the intensity of both hangover and headache.
