When one of my best friends told me about Himalayan salt and how great flavor gives to her food, I didn’t believe her. I come from a place which is near to sea and the only salt I knew is sea salt. Soon I discover that making changes (even if that includes your… salt choice) is not so bad after all and you don’t need to climb mount Everest for this. And even though Himalayan salt comes from the mountains, it is actually sea salt as it comes from a salted body of water, like a salt water lake.
As the story goes hundreds of millions of years ago crystallized sea salt beds, were covered by lava. The lava is thought to have protected the salt leading to the belief that Himalayan salt is the purest salt to be found on earth and all this in pink cute color.
Himalayan salt contains a rich amount of minerals (containing 84 minerals in total) such as sodium chloride, sulphate, calcium, potassium and magnesium. When using this pink salt you are getting less sodium intake than sea salt because it is less refined. Some of the benefits of Himalayan salt is that lowers blood pressure, improves circulation, increases your libido, strengthen your bones and prevents muscle cramps. If your muscles are relaxed that means you have a better sleep too.
